Manchester United ready to punish Anthony Martial for going AWOL

Justin GreeneAug 04, 2018

After an exclusive report surfaced in the Telegraph that claimed senior Manchester United players are anxious about their boss' increasingly morose demeanour having a negative impact on their season before it even kicks off, perhaps Mourinho could do with taking a look at how things are being done on the other end of the M62. That is unless United complete a deal for Yerry Mina, the Colombia centre-back who looks set to leave Barcelona.

The 22-year-old France winger has not trained for eight days and could face a fine of £180,000, the equivalent of two weeks' wages, if United decide that the unauthorised absence constitutes a breach of his contract.

Brown continued: "This season, especially after the World Cup that he's had, he's going to start expressing himself a lot more".

But Mourinho won't forget this summer's transfer campaign in a hurry and will not be dissuaded from using it publicly as explanation for any evident failings in United's play at a later point.

Paul Pogba has had a very impressive summer indeed, and former Manchester United defender Wes Brown predicts he'll continue his form into the 2018-19 season.

So far, only Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant have arrived at Old Trafford and the transfer window closes August 9.

Some are even discussing which manager would take over at Manchester United if Mourinho made a decision to leave the club, with some big names mentioned among the bookies favourites.

Even Real Madrid have switched their transfer strategy from the galactico model to buying the best young players from their own country.

Mourinho's pre-season demeanour has been the subject of much conversation, following his public outbursts and spats with select players, most prominently Anthony Martial.

He sees himself as a central midfielder, who is "flexible and also willing to play in a different position". We certainly don't want to let him go.

I think the top Premier League goal scorer will be Harry Kane.
