National Football League notebook: Rodgers leaves with leg injury

Justin GreeneSep 10, 2018

Backup DeShone Kizer replaced Rodgers on Green Bay's next drive.

- Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered what could be a potentially serious knee injury in the team's season opener against the Chicago Bears.

The Bears, with help from star newcomer Khalil Mack, pressured the six-time Pro Bowler early and often as Rodgers completed only three-of-sevem passes for 13 yards, and was sacked twice. The Packers had announced at halftime that Rodgers was questionable to return. The 34-year-old managed to walk off the field with some assistance, but was carted from the sideline to the locker room shortly thereafter.

Kickoff between the Bears and Packers comes at 7:20 p.m. CT from Lambeau Field. After he did so, Bears defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris sacked him and landed right on Rodgers' left knee. He appeared to reach down for the back of his left leg.

That came shortly after Mack had done this to Kizer, in for the injured Aaron Rodgers.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Rodgers is now deemed questionable to return to the game, which is enough update to comfort the legion of anxious Packers fans who saw the quarterback getting carted into the locker just before the end of the first half. Rodgers also missed seven games in 2013 after suffering a broken collarbone.
