New Video Shows Harvey Weinstein Inappropriately Touching Rape Accuser

Sheri SchwartzSep 14, 2018

Released through an exclusive story by Sky News, the footage shows Weinstein touching and making sexually suggestive comments to Melissa Thompson, who was at Weinstein's offices in NY for a business meeting in 2011. Thompson said he then invited her to another meeting at a Manhattan hotel restaurant later that day she believed would close the deal.

Ms Thompson offers a handshake, Weinstein pushes her hand out of the way and hugs her, running his hands up and down her back and murmuring "that's nice, let's keep it up".

It also shows her joking about his advances, saying that "data is hot".

Thompson says that when she arrived at the hotel, Weinstein instructed her to "follow me", and she did so thinking they were going to a conference room.

At one point he asks her: "Let me have a little part of you". In the video, she noticeably squirms and says "that's a little high". "It's okay. Would you like to do it some more?"

"Am I allowed to flirt with you?" he is heard asking, and Thompson replies: "Um, we'll see, a little bit".

In a lawsuit filed in June, Thompson said Weinstein raped her that evening at a hotel.

Instead, she alleges, he lured her to his hotel room, where he raped her. In it the video, the professional meeting takes on an air of predation nearly immediately, as Weinstein touches Thompson inappropriately and asks her inappropriate questions. He told the other staff not to interrupt them, and then locked the door. She agrees, and told Sky that it felt safer than being alone in his office.

"That's a little high", she says in the video.

In a statement to Sky News, Weinstein's lawyer Benjamin Brafman says that the video of Thompson's meeting with Weinstein "demonstrates that there is nothing forceful, but casual if not awkward flirting from both parties".

Anything short of that is meant to make Mr. Weinstein appear inappropriate, and even exploitative.

Thompson is one of more than 70 women, primarily from young actresses and women employed in the film industry, who has accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct, including harassment and rape.

Along the way, she said, he rebuffed her attempts to fight or get away.

She is seen watching the footage along with a Sky News reporter, and denies encouraging him, telling the channel: "I think there was a combination of confidence and naivety that led me to this dynamic that we see now, watching back".

But Brafman accused Thompson to trying to bolster her position in the lawsuit. At first I was kind of trying to manage the situation. That is where she accuses him of raping her.

"If I would try to fight myself away from him, he would then move around to where he could block me in somewhere, and he's a big individual", Thompson told Sky News.

"This is a further attempt to publicly disgrace Mr Weinstein for financial gain, and we will not stand for it".
