Mayor John Cranley said it was "horrific" scene inside a downtown Cincinnati bank building where four people were killed including the gunman. When four police officers arrived, they shot the suspect through glass windows and killed him, Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac said. Surveillance video will be released Friday, Isaac said.

The shooter is 29-year-old Omar Enrique Perez.

Chief Isaac says Santa Perez acted as a lone shooter, using a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, and had at least 200 rounds of ammunition with him.

The gunman's motive was not revealed. Police Lt. Steve Saunders said he wasn't a current or past employee of Fifth Third, and police didn't know immediately why he went to that building. The situation appeared to be under control shortly before 10 a.m. EDT Thursday.

The officers were wearing body cameras. Federal agents were on the scene.

"This is not normal, and it shouldn't be viewed as normal".

The gunman was confronted by Cincinnati police officers inside of the building, officials said, and a shootout commenced. "I think there's something deeply sick at work here, and we as a country have got to deal with it".

While Austin survived, three people that were killed in the rampage were identified.

One of the victims also died at the scene.

Fifth Third Bank issued a statement Thursday afternoon, offering thoughts and prayers for those caught up in the "terrible event".

Newcomer "will be greatly missed".

"This is a shock that none of us could have ever expected and we're focused on praying for his family and getting through this", Cotter said.

Cotter said Newcomer had worked for Gilbane, which has headquarters in Rhode Island and has two offices in OH, for four years, overseeing trade workers.

A witness told the Cincinnati Enquirer he heard as many as 15 gunshots during the morning incident.

"I was walking past the Chipotle and I had my headphones in when some woman stopped me and said 'You don't want to go to the square, we just heard gun shots, ' " he says.

The gray shirts haves a message in "police blue" that incorporates the Fountain Square's namesake fountain. "We're of course rattled". Issac further said, "Some of the victims were shot multiple times".

Fountain Square and the surrounding area has been closed to foot traffic and the Cincinnati Police Department has closed some streets. It is home to retail stores, business offices, hotels and eateries.

A 64-year-old contractor, a 48-year old bank employee and a 25-year-old engineer who worked as a consultant for the bank died in the attack.
