SpaceX Has Signed Its First Passenger to Fly Around the Moon

After someone responded to the tweet by jokingly suggesting that Musk himself will be the passenger, the SpaceX CEO offered a hint about the person who is traveling, responding with a Japanese flag emoji.

SpaceX is set to announce the first private passenger to fly around the Moon on one of its spacecraft, the company tweeted Thursday.

Elon Musk's rocket company signed up its first passenger for a flight around the moon, taking a giant leap toward commercializing space travel - at least in terms of consumer demand.

SpaceX said it has signed the first private moon traveller, with some changes to its original game plan.

Musk's space exploration company SpaceX has already sent a Tesla auto and a cage of mice into orbit.

Shortly after his successful Falcon Heavy Launch, Musk said he expected a "full-scale test" of the massive rocket within the next few years.

Less than 20 minutes after the first tweet, a second one followed with a reminder that no one has visited the moon since the last Apollo mission in 1972. Laliberté was the seventh and last space tourist, prior to SpaceX's announcement on Monday.

However the passengers were never named and the flight has yet to materialise.

Ever wondered who owns the moon? "And we believe we can do this with the revenue we receive from launching satellites and servicing the space station".

SpaceX now has a $1.6 billion contract with NASA to supply the astronauts living at the ISS, via regular cargo trips on its Dragon spaceship, launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket.

Back previous year, SpaceX was all-in on the Falcon Heavy rocket, which was its planned vehicle for a 2018 two-person Moon trip. We plan to do that, probably in the fourth quarter of next year (2018).
