Tiger Woods calls Nike’s Colin Kaepernick ad a "beautiful spot"

And yes that means that lines are being drawn and it's largely because the former NFL quarterback was the first to take a knee during the National Anthem, an action he took to protest police brutality and racial injustice.

But Nike is not the only company that got involved in a political debate, so are trainers the new political battleground?

The President weighed-in on Nike's growing controversy on social media this week, saying the shoemaker was "getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts".

Or, perhaps, maybe they just thought supporting the head of a campaign to stop police killings of unarmed Black people was a good idea.

The two minute-plus spot features dozens of athletes, including tennis champion Serena Williams, basketball's LeBron James and Kenya's Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge.

The ad prompted a #BoycottNike campaign where several people Tweeted videos of themselves burning their Nikes in protest. "In the meanwhile, let us honor true heroes, those who protect us daily, some even sacrificing their own lives". For every person who filmed themselves cutting up a pair of Nike socks that they already purchased, a free ad featuring the Nike logo was created.

President Donald Trump, a frequent critic of protesting National Football League players, tweeted Wednesday that Nike is getting "killed" over the endorsement deal. And right now, Nike, thanks to the ad, is a symbol for Kaepernick's social justice cause.

"What was Nike thinking?".

"As far as Kaepernick and all that's concerned, we all have the freedom of speech and he's using it in a way that's non-violent which is something you just have to respect as an American", he said. A CBS News poll last fall found that Americans are unhappy with both the protests during the anthem and President Trump's comments on the issue.

Nike will continue to air the ad and an abbreviated version throughout the weekend, according to a report from ESPN's Darren Rovell. "I feel like that was a really powerful statement to a lot of other companies".
