It remains an extremely risky major hurricane through Thursday night.

'We continue to urge all South Carolinians to listen to the information from emergency personnel and to not take this storm lightly.

The "extremely unsafe major hurricane" is predicted to hit the coast late Thursday or early Friday morning, dropping as much as 30 inches of rain in some areas and wind gusts in the 140 miles per hour range, says the National Hurricane Center.

"The combination of storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline". "Make sure you have flashlights and batteries", Bowser said.

The governor of neighboring North Carolina ordered an evacuation of the Outer Banks, barrier islands that are a popular tourist destination, and parts of coastal Dare County.

In its own release, Virginia Tech officials said they had planned to wait until Wednesday to review updated storm projections before making a determination on the game.

But a weather formation known as a high-pressure ridge is parked over the U.S. East coast, preventing Florence from doing the normal turn, said University of Miami hurricane expert Brian McNoldy.

The large and powerful hurricane has prompted evacuation orders in North and SC and Virginia, as officials urge residents in coastal and low-lying areas to prepare for strong winds, a deep storm surge and a deluge of rainfall. In the six decades since then, many thousands of people have moved to the coast.

A flawless storm of unfortunate circumstances means Florence could deal a devastating blow to the Southeast.

At 11 p.m., the storm was centred 670 miles (1,075 km) southeast of Cape Fear, North Carolina, moving at 17 mph (28 kph).

The storm could also affect other games scheduled for the Carolinas or Viginia, with other potential affected Saturday matchups including Clemson-Georgia Southern, South Carolina-Marshall, Virginia Tech-East Carolina and Virginia-Ohio.

"We face three critical threats from Florence: ocean surge along our coast, strong winds, and inland flooding from heavy rain", Governor Cooper said. "This rainfall may produce life-threatening flash flooding".

"This is one of the worst storms to hit the East Coast in many years", US President Donald Trump tweeted Monday evening.

"All of our computer models that we really like, that we say these are the accurate ones, are all lining up and saying this thing's going to explode", Cash said.

All signs pointed to a stronger, slower, wider and wetter hurricane in the days ahead, forecasters said. N.C. State is off on October 13 but West Virginia plays Iowa State. Its hurricane-force winds extend up to 60 miles from the storm's center.

Duke Energy spokesman Ryan Mosier said operators would begin shutting down nuclear plants at least two hours before hurricane-force winds arrive.

Two other storms are spinning in the Atlantic as the 2018 hurricane season reaches its peak.

It includes transporting supplies, equipment, fuel, or people to and from the areas hit by the storm.

From the livestock industry, one environmental impact from the storm could be from the lagoons, or lined earthen pits, that hold treated manure.

Business owners prepare for Hurricane Florence in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. It goes without saying that SC farmers don't need yet another major weather challenge this year after having so many weather disasters in the past. "The threat will be inland, so I'm afraid, based on my experience at Fema, that the public is probably not as prepared as everybody would like".

"Where else can we go?"
