Trump open to Russia probe interview ‘under certain circumstances’ ZlotoNews

Rudy Giuliani, an attorney representing the president, told Reuters on Thursday that Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the Russian Federation probe, wanted Trump to commit to a follow-up interview after providing written answers to questions about possible coordination between members of Trump's presidential election campaign and Moscow. Giuliani's comments came just hours after Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, espoused a belief in an expansive view of executive powers and declined to say whether a president can be subpoenaed and forced to testify.

"I think it's a big waste of time because there's no collusion" with Russians who sought to influence the 2016 election by hacking Democrats, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to a political appearance in North Dakota.

But shortly after the AP ran its story on that ostensibly hard line, Giuliani told NBC News that such questions are "not ruled in or out."

Mueller's office has previously sought to interview the president about the obstruction issue, including his firing a year ago of former FBI Director James Comey and his public attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

It's unclear if Mr. Giuliani's public position has been endorsed by Mr. Trump, who has said he wants to answer questions under oath. "After we finish this we will assess it with no agreement to any post-presidential questions".

"It would be in written form and if you want to follow up on our answers, justify it".

Despite the president's legal team's reservations, negotiations on the scope of the interview are still ongoing with Mueller's team.

There is an internal debate brewing within Trump's personal legal team regarding an in-person interview with the special counsel.

Attorney Rudy Giuliani said he and Mueller's office are close to an agreement that includes written testimony, but sticking points remain. "Show us why you didn't get there the first time".

Trump's eagerness to sit in an interview with the special counsel's team and his belief that the move would end the probe, shows how little he is aware of the entire situation. The former FBI director claimed Trump pushed him to stop a probe into Michael Flynn, who has pleaded guilty of lying to the FBI and is cooperating with the Russian investigation.
